All good things take a team. The accomplishments below represent the work and collaboration of many. I am proud to have played my part.
From 2017 to 2019, I launched Ann Arbor’s largest-ever program to construct affordable housing. This collaboration between elected officials, housing experts, and private capital is projected to create over 1,200 housing units, changing over 3,600 lives.
The demolition of the old Ann Arbor YMCA resulted in the closure of 100 affordable housing units. Ten years later, I laid out a new vision for the site: Mixed-income, mixed-use development that will maximize the number of affordable units and serve an an anchor for the redevelopment of a long-ignored downtown corridor.
From Uber to autonomous vehicles, the ways people get around are changing rapidly. To lead transportation innovation, I redeployed Ann Arbor's outdated Taxi Cab Board to examine our mobility systems holistically, creating a community that is more accessible, mobile, safe, and equitable.
Ann Arbor's downtown zoning code had not been updated in a decade. To meet current needs and priorities, I successfully championed policies that more aggressively incentivize real estate developers to incorporate affordable housing into their projects.
Over 80,000 people commute into Ann Arbor every day. This surge increases congestion and causes carbon emissions. It is also the symptom of a housing shortage that has spiked rents and home sale prices. To address this systemic problem, I introduced measures to build housing near employment centers and transit corridors.
Writing has always been a passion. After taking elected office, my position granted me the opportunity to share messages and stories that need to be told. Over the past five years, I've penned a number of opinion pieces in publications around metro Detroit.
The 21st century has brought humanity into a new digital age. The way we learn, work, and build relationships has changed forever. At Denison Consulting, I launched a new practice area focused on helping organizations build cultures that can sustain and boost performance in this digital environment.
The recent economic boom created labor shortages in the manufacturing industry as employees experienced greater choice. To respond, organizations needed innovative ways to recruit and retain talent. At Denison Consulting, I co-led a team of consultants and analysts to successfully transform a $4-billion organization's culture into that of a modern employer of choice.
